Viral donut shop with long lines all over Japan
Intro – A donut stand with only to-go options. Very popular with some locations having wait times of over an hour. We went to a location in Ginza and didn’t have to wait longer than 10 mins at around 11AM
What we ordered
Top to Bottom – Muscat, Vanilla Custard, Pistachio Cream, Lemon Glaze
- Vanilla Custard – the donut was airy with a great chew. I like my donuts sweet and this was sweet enough for me, unlike most other desserts in Japan. The vanilla flavor was full with natural vanilla beans. Custard was not too dense and a great level of creaminess. Rating 8.0/10
- Lemon Glaze – this was a ring donut but the texture was just as great. The glaze was fragrant and not too tart. I would have liked more lemon flavor. Rating 7.6/10
- Pistachio cream – cream was rich and not too creamy and again great level of sweetness. Pistachio flavor was really lacking though and I would have wanted a richer mouthfeel like was other nut butters. Rating 7.2/10
- Muscat – This was a seasonal item as grapes were in season at the time we visited. The custard was just as good as the other custard and the whole grapes added nice contrast. It doesn’t pair amazingly well but a unique donut to try. Rating 8.1/10
Conclusion – i’m donut is not really worth the hype and I probably wouldn’t wait longer than 15 minutes for it. I typically like my donuts more cake-like and tender whereas this one was more doughy and chewy. Flavors are not as salient as I’d like but many would appreciate the level of sweetness.
Overall Rating 7.6/10
