Viral pastry shop known for delicious mille-feuille desserts
Intro – I saw many Instagram videos raving about the desserts from this bakery. The shop was really cute with a bunch of pastries, cookies, and cakes, set out like an antique store. I have a big sweet tooth so we had to check it out while in Osaka. It’s also by a very big mall full of many high-end brands if you were in the mood for shopping and dessert.
Ambiance – Cute bakery shop with an interesting antique shop layout rather than a glass display showcasing desserts
What we ordered
- Brulee Mille-feuille w/ Iced Tea (left) – The iced tea was light and refreshing, not astringent at all, and almost juicy. It was likely a cold brew green tea. It paired well with the dessert. The Mille-feuille had custard on the inside and a bruleed custard on the outside. The puff pastry was very crunchy, airy, and light, and at the same time had great browning and brown butter notes. The custard was not too sweet and had a good amount of richness and a strong vanilla flavor. It did get a little “one-note” and a bit boring toward the end. It might have been too big for a dessert. Rating 7.6/10
- Lemon Cream Cheese Mille-feuille (right) – This had the same delicious mille-feuille with a lemon custard and cream cheese filling and a torched meringue on the outside. The lemon cream was a bit too tart and sweet for me but it had tons of lemon flavor. The meringue did an ok job of taming the tartness but it didn’t add that much to the dessert. The cream cheese was towards the bottom of the pastry so it was a refreshing bite to take after all the lemon custard. I liked that this gave a more diverse eating experience compared to the brulee one. Rating 7.7/10
Conclusion – The pastries were decent but a little big. I would recommend sharing one because 1 per person was too filling, especially after lunch. This wasn’t anything to go out of the way for but a nice stop if you’re planning to visit the mall nearby. The shop itself is really cute though and has plenty of other treats. It’s worth a stop just to check out the shop. Their mille-feuilles are popular but I’m sure it’s not their best item.
