Highly rated curry shop on Google Maps
Intro – We are huge fans of Japanese curry and wanted to try some in Japan that wasn’t an international chain like CoCo Ichibanya. We stumbled across this shop on Google Maps near where we were staying in Tokyo which had good reviews so we decided to check it out.
Ambiance – Casual diner seemingly full of locals
What We Ordered
- Beef Curry medium spicy – This came with a decent portion of rice and a little bit of cheese on the rice. It also came with pickled Japanese vegetables. The curry was a lot sweeter than the typical boxed curry. It was very rich, fatty, and well-rounded. It had great levels of salt but I think it was lacking a bit in flavor. I maybe should have ordered it spicy so they could have added more curry powder. In Japanese curry, the spicier typically just indicates the level of flavor and does not really indicate the level of heat. The beef was very soft and had a good amount of fat. Some pieces were slightly dry but nothing the curry couldn’t hide. The Japanese pickles were nice to have as a palette cleanser from the rich curry. The potatoes were just baked and served with a bit of butter. It was nothing special at all but it helped fill you up. Rating 7.8/10
Conclusion – It was a nice local diner serving flavorful curry. There wasn’t a wait when we went but I couldn’t wait for it. The meat quality was good but I think the curry just was a bit too sweet for my liking but I did enjoy the fat and salt levels. I would recommend getting something more spicy than medium. I would also recommend this spot if you want to the a fattier curry than the typical boxed curry. Japanese curry is still one of my favorite meals of all time though so I still gave it a decent score.
